JOIN OUR STAFF COMMUNITY
Who we are:
The Kroka staff community is a diverse group of people from all ages and backgrounds
who share a commitment to live simply and purposefully while working together
to share our skills, knowledge, and values in a transformative way through
high-quality outdoor education programs.
What we do:
Summer Program Leaders teach week-long wilderness adventure programs for children
that are usually focused around specific skills for specific age groups. Semester
Program Staff teach a group of 12 young-adults for a 4-6 month period in our
residential and wilderness expeditionary learning semester. Local School Group
Teachers teach one-day programs to classes from local schools at our base
camp in Marlow. Contracted School Group staff lead week-long paddling and
hiking expeditions for teachers and their students throughout the United States.
All staff share in the daily chores of caring for our base camp farm and village.
CURRENT OPENINGS:
2011 NH-Vermont Semester Teacher: We seek a teacher who can hold the overall social and educational experience of the group, help care for the physical and emotional needs of the students, lead certain areas of expedition preparations, and be a presence throughout the journey.
2011 NH-Vermont Semester Apprentice: We seek an apprentice who can assist the lead teachers, provide support and take on responsibilities at Kroka base camp and during extended layovers, and be a presence and mentor for the students throughout the journey. It is expected that the Apprentice will be learning alongside the students for much of the ski and canoe expeditions.
What we offer:
Our teachers are paid well for their work, with a pay scale based on skills,
experience, and longevity. Room and board are provided, as well as ongoing
travel and training opportunities. We often work very hard for many long hours
day after day. We know that we are making a positive difference in the world
- and we give ourselves fully to this vocation. The biggest part of our compensation
is the change we see in our student's eyes at the end of a program.
What we require:
- maturity, personal integrity, and a strong work ethic
- experience, interest, and enthusiasm for teaching children of all ages
- training and experience with outdoor leadership, including wilderness expeditions
- some experience with adventure skills (rock climbing, paddling)
- familiarity with or training in Waldorf educational philosophies
- significant life experience in farming, homesteading, practical crafts, and traditional wilderness living skills
If you have these particular qualities and experiences, we would like to meet you. Please first carefully read the materials published on our website at www.kroka.org and then (if you are still interested) you could send your resume with a letter to office@kroka.org, or stop by to visit our base camp in Marlow.
