Kroka Expeditions is seeking an experienced finance manager to join our team and take the lead on the organization’s growing finances. Kroka is a wilderness expedition school based on a year-round organic farm in Marlow, NH. Founded in 1994, we provide short-term and semester-long programming to upwards of 1,000 students annually in the areas of adventure sports and wilderness skills. The Business Manager will take responsibility for Kroka’s financial operations including managing cash flow, budgeting, student accounts and financial aid, and strategic financial planning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage organization’s cash flow and accounting
- Oversee the operating budget and budgeting process
- Conduct student accounts for semester programs and Kroka Community School
- Administer scholarships and financial aid distribution
- Direct human resources department including staff contracting and evaluation
Additional Responsibilities
- Manage bank accounts and insurance policies
- Maintain the Fiscal Manual and all financial policies
- Conduct major purchasing for the organization
- Negotiate subcontracted activities and business partnerships
- Maintain and grow endowment fund
- Prepare and deliver reports at weekly staff meetings and quarterly board meetings
- Oversee annual audit process
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, accounting, business administration
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in a small business or nonprofit setting
- Recent management experience, ideally in a school or educational setting
- Understanding of school finances including financial aid administration
- Expertise in grant writing and/or operational fundraising
- Mission-driven over profit-driven approach to fiscal management
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Excited to explore nontraditional organizational financial models including sliding scale fees
- Experience with financial strategic planning and visioning
- Ready to jump into a leadership role in a dynamic, hardworking team setting
- Experience teaching children and/or personal expedition experience is a plus
Conditions, Compensation & Benefits:
This is a part-time salaried position based in Marlow, NH, approximately 30 hours per week. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
