Paddlers Journey Up North

Sun, Jul 28, 2024 - Sat, Aug 17, 2024  (21 days)
  Ages: 14 - 16

Kroka’s classic Paddler’s Journey Up North is newly expanded into a three-week whitewater paddling bonanza: a must-do for anyone who has caught the whitewater bug. We begin with a week of intensive paddlesports training at Kroka’s basecamp where the Ashuelot, Cold, West, Connecticut, and Deerfield Rivers offer some of the best canoe and kayak progressions in the Northeast. We will pick berries, care for the farm animals, and go cliff-jumping as we build a joyous and tight-knit community. From here we depart for two weeks of whitewater expedition in the White Mountains and Western Maine. We will explore the Rapid, Magalloway and Androscoggin Rivers as we work our way up to challenging class III and IV rapids. At night we will make camp along the wilderness shorelines and cook delicious food over the fire. Our first expedition concludes with a trip to Mahoosuc Guide Service to visit a canoe-making workshop and help care for the sled dogs. From here we drive north to the West Branch of the Penobscot River for a few days of playboating followed by a fully-loaded whitewater expedition down the across Chesuncook Lake to the Ripogenus section at the edge of Baxter State Park.
