Climber's Journey Down South

Climber's Journey Down South

Sun, Jul 25, 2027 - Sat, Aug 21, 2027  (28 days)
  Ages: 16 - 18

This four-week international Capstone expedition is led by Kroka's senior climbing guide Ulises "Chuy" Fierro. After climbing training and preparations at Kroka and in the southern White Mountains, we will fly to the small city of QuerĂ©taro, Mexico where we begin a week of acclimatization and cultural immersion. We will practice Spanish language, engage in service projects with local communities, visit museums and learn about the complicated history of modern-day Mexico. Leaving the city we drive to the mountainous community of Aculco, famous for canyons and crack climbing, and then on to El Doctor, a small village where we begin a week-long trek through high-altitude farm and ranch communities. Arriving in Amecameca, a town at the foot of the volcanoes, we will resupply in the mountain village and begin a week of technical climbing on Mexico's little-developed yet impressive walls. The expedition culminates in a high-peaks summit and a return to the city for a feast and celebration.

As a capstone expedition this expedition will require advance preparation beginning in early 2027. Interested students must register by December 31st. Open to Kroka students and alumni who have completed previous two or three-week expeditions.
