If you are reading this page, you probably know that Kroka Expeditions is a non-profit wilderness education school based on an organic farm on the border of Alstead and Marlow NH. As part of our unique curriculum of wilderness adventure and sustainable living, Kroka has been bringing young people to Lake Warren for many many years, and countless local children have enjoyed their first experience of canoeing with Kroka on the gentle waters surrounding Pine Island. The care that is given to the health and water quality of the lake, and the engagement of the Warren Lake Preservation Association, and the communities at Chase’s Mill, The Center at Orchard Hill, and the Monadnock Conservancy have made this the most precious natural resource of our local Marlow/Alstead region.
We have recently learned that this beautiful wooded peninsula on the north end of Lake Warren is currently for sale and being promoted for the construction of new vacation homes. Concerned by this news, the Kroka community has been mobilizing our resources in order to attempt to conserve this parcel and protect it from development.
We have already received several commitments from concerned donors within our community (current total pledges $372,000) and we are immediately seeking pledges for matching tax-deductible donations from anyone who shares our love and concern for the future of Lake Warren. If our campaign is successful, Kroka will purchase the parcel and permanently protect the lakeshore from any further threat of development. Towards this end, we seek partnership with the Lake Association as well as the Alstead Conservation Commission and other local stewardship organizations to advise and collaborate on our shared vision.
